Poison Program
For poison emergencies, please call 1-800-222-1222
The mission of the Texas Poison Control Network (TPCN) is to reduce the morbidity, mortality, and costs associated with poisonings. This goal is accomplished by educating the citizens of Texas to prevent poisonings. In addition, it is achieved through proper response to telephone inquiries when a poisoning emergency arises.
Background and Organizational Structure
The TPCN was created in 1993 by Texas Senate Bill 773, which was a cooperative effort among the six Texas Regional Poison Centers, The Texas Department of Health (TDH now DSHS) and the Commission on State Emergency Communications (CSEC).
In 2009, the 81st Legislature, Regular Session, passed House Bill 1093 which transferred all the responsibilities of administration of the Texas Poison Control Network to the Commission on State Emergency Communications as of May 1, 2010.
